Missouri Quarter Horse Youth Association - May 2021 News

Hello, we’ve had a great start to the season!

Your hard work at the Winter Blast helped us raise the following funds:

- MQHA Apparel Sales: $700

- Gateway Stall Raffle Ticket Sales: $476

- Youth Donation: $20

**Total deposit from our fundraising efforts at the Winter Blast: $1,196!

One of our main fundraisers this year at the MQHA Gateway Classic will be a Parent Showmanship Challenge! Here are the details:

★ We will take nominations Thursday-Saturday during the show.

★ An initial nomination is $20 per parent. Jars will be set up for each nominated parent. Parents can continue to be 'nominated' by placing any value of money in their respective jar.

★ A board will be kept tracking where each parent is at compared to the other parents as far as donation amounts.

★ The 12 parents with the highest nomination (most money) will compete in the showmanship challenge at the end of the show on Saturday evening.

★ The 12 parents will be in the arena with their horse, and we will Calcutta each parent. We will pay the purchaser of the winning parent AND the purchaser of the 4th place winning parent. MQHYA will keep 20% of the total Calcutta earnings. Then, the remaining 80% will be split between the purchaser of 1st and 4th place, 60% and 40% to each, respectively.

★ The first-place parent will take home $50.

★ Be sure to tell your parents to start practicing their showmanship skills!

Another exciting new development is the MQHA Charities is going to host an exhibitor cocktail party after the show on Saturday that will take place in conjunction with the challenge. This party will be very similar to the party MQHA hosted on Wednesday evening during the Maple Leaf. Saturday evening is sure to be a lot of fun!

In addition to this, we will host a youth pizza party in the barns on Thursday evening, May 27 at 5:30pm! We can mingle and talk about YES and Youth World team plans. We will also have the youth sno cone maker there as well! RSPV for the pizza party here.

We are getting excited for the Youth Excellence Seminar (YES)! This event is scheduled for July 12-14 in Amarillo, Texas. Event information and registration is available here. (Check out whose picture is featured!) In past years, this has been a great team bonding event for MQHYA (in fact, we brought the most people in 2019) and it is also a great place to learn new leadership skills! Every year they have multiple guest speakers, a dance, leadership workshops, a community service project, and this is also where AQHYA officer and director campaigns/elections occur.

If you are planning to attend YES or are interested in running for an AQHYA officer or national director position, please let Youth Adviser, Cara Harmon, know as soon as possible so she can include you with our team travel plans!

If you are planning on attending the Youth World Show, July 28 - August 8 in Oklahoma City and have not submitted your Letter of Intent, you need to contact Cara immediately. If you are planning on joining Team Missouri from another state, you must submit a Change of Affiliation form. These forms are due to AQHA by May 15 and require several signatures. Like last year, Missouri has an unlimited number of spots it can offer to competitors for the youth world! In addition to this, L1 classes will also be offered again. Here is the tentative schedule for the show.

Don’t forget about the other opportunities to get involved at the Youth World. AQHYA hosts horse judging, speech competitions, art contests, and more! Entries are due to AQHA by July 15. Contact Cara if you are interested, as she will send all Team Missouri entries in together. MQHYA sponsors the cost of all contest entries from members. These contests are so much fun and a great way to make the most of your Youth World experience!

Lastly, it is important that we are looking for team sponsors all year. Money that we raise helps pay for team expenses for YES, the Youth World and Congress NYATT teams, and more!

We already have two amazing sponsors:

Manna Pro ($250)

Hot Headstalls ($200)

You can download our sponsorship form from our Youth page on the MQHA website and it is also attached.

See you soon!
