MQHA Member Spotlight: Kimberly Slaughter

Where are you from:  Marthasville, MO

How long have you been showing horses? I started showing Quarter Horses in 1997, I showed Thoroughbreds in jumping events since my teenage years!

How long have you been in Missouri? Born and raised in Lake St. Louis, MO

What is your favorite horse show?  The American Royal has always been my favorite show, although the shows at the NEC are nice since it is just minutes from my house.

What is your favorite event to show in? I would say I enjoy the western pleasure the most, but my goal for this year is to show in the western riding if I can figure out those darn lead changes…lol!

What is your favorite class to watch? I love watching the Western Riding and the Reining classes

Do you have any superstitions when you show? No, I just try to remind myself I am there to have fun and I try not to let my nerves get the best of me!

Who is your all-time favorite horse? And why?  I am super excited about the horse I own now "Always Certain" aka Slim.  We got off to a Rocky start together our first year, then Covid hit our 2nd show season. This is really our first break out  year together. I see so much potential with Slim, by far one of the most talented horses I have ever owned. Jon Barry has done an amazing job with him and my neighbor Ken Inchiostro helped so much with him as well, along with Hannah Inchiostro who took him to the youth world in 2020 and had an amazing show with him!

If you are not at a horse show, what would we find you doing? Probably working but when not working I love boating and hanging out at my other home at Lake of the Ozarks, but realistically, I am probably on a mower or a tractor cutting grass!

Do you have another job…besides taking care of your horses? I am a Real Estate Broker that handles acquisitions and sales for large Rental Portfolio companies (hedge funds)

What is your favorite thing about MQHA? I love the activities and the success of the MQHYA. It makes my heart happy to see these kids and their dedication to the industry and each other as a group.

Favorite hobby besides showing horses? Boating

Favorite food? Mexican Food, ( can't stop on the chips and salsa!!)

Favorite restaurant? Right now it is a place in Washington, MO called the Tilted Skillet

Favorite movie?  Not really a specific favorite but War Horse was one I really enjoyed

Favorite quote?  Ride it like you stole it!!

What is your dream vacation?  Just hanging out on a beach somewhere, anywhere as long as it is warm weather and sand under my toes!

What are you terrible at but love to do anyway?  I hate speaking in front of large groups or making a presentation, but I have to do it sometimes!

What is one thing on your bucket list? To go to the World Show. I have never been there yet.

Tell us something most people don’t know about you?  Not sure, I think everyone I am around knows I am an open book and say what is on my mind.

One piece of advice you would like to share with exhibitors who are just getting started?  Just have Fun, enjoy the great people in our industry and always support one another.
