Name: Amanda Johnson

Where are you from: I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO

How long have you been showing horses? 10+ years. I started in 4H and moved to a trainer who introduced me to APHA and AQHA showing.

How long have you been in Missouri? My entire life

What is your favorite horse show? Any show that has air-conditioned barns

What is your favorite event to show in? Equitation

What is your favorite class to watch? Western Pleasure and Trail because there is so much to look for

Do you have any superstitions when you show? It was Showmanship day at the Color Breed Congress and I had to wear my friend’s boots so they matched the color of the pants I was wearing. The boots were too big so I wore three pairs of socks to make them stay on my feet. I won the class and ever since then I always show in at least three pairs of socks.

Who is your all-time favorite horse? And why? Snap Krackle Pop because she has been so successful and has produced successful babies.

If you are not at a horse show, what would we find you doing? Working out or playing with my dogs. I have an Alaskan Klee Kai named Alex and a rescue Sheltie named Simon.

Do you have another job…besides taking care of your horses? Yes, I work in the behavioral neuroscience field.

What is your favorite thing about MQHA? How friendly and welcoming everyone is.

Favorite hobby besides showing horses? Boxing, sand volleyball and hanging out with friends.

Favorite food? Mint chocolate chip custard from Fadd’s Frozen Custard in Moberly, MO

Favorite restaurant? Moti Mahal in Kansas City. They have the best butter chicken which is an Indian dish of chicken in a spiced tomato and cream sauce.

Favorite movie? Mr. Nobody, a psychological thriller

Favorite quote? “Failure is a detour, not a dead end” by Zig Ziglar

What is your dream vacation? Visiting Greece or Italy

What are you terrible at but love to do anyway? Ice skating

What is one thing on your bucket list? Skydiving

Tell us something most people don’t know about you? I am a certified Kansas City Barbecue Judge and I am left handed

One piece of advice you would like to share with exhibitors who are just getting started? Be open minded and willing to take advice from anyone who is willing to help you
