MQHYA May 2023 News

Hello, we’ve had a great start to the season!

Our Parent Leadline Challenge at the Show-Me Spring Show was a huge success! Thank you to all who participated. We raised a total of $1,030 for MQHYA. When you see the following people, please thank them for their generous donations and support of this fundraiser: Jana Allison (mother of Grayson and Gabby), Kathy Barry, Sherri Hennis, and Olivia Werdehausen family.

I am looking forward to the Gateway Classic show next week! On Friday evening, MQHA is hosting a Grill & Chill Block Party during the Ranch Challenge. MQHYA is in charge of bringing yard games. If you have a set of bags, oversized Jenga, or other fun yard games, please bring them! Our fundraiser will be a Pie in the Face contest! Details will be announced on Facebook soon. Stay tuned! We need a lot of youth and parent help for these activities!

We are going to host a silent auction during the Gateway show. We have a handful of really nice donated items from vendors at the Winter Blast - a saddle blanket, necklace, purse/bag, etc. We ask that all youth at the Gateway show bring an item or basket to contribute to the auction. This can be a single item or a basket of summer goodies, cooler full of fun treats/drinks, outdoor toys, or something from a favorite local store. Think of anything unique! This is our last big fundraiser of the year, so let’s make it count!

During the Gateway show, we will draw the stall raffle winner. We’ll sell tickets for these on Thursday and Friday then draw the winner Saturday morning during the showmanship. The winner does not have to be present to win, so anyone can purchase tickets! We need help selling tickets throughout the show.

We are getting excited about the Youth Excellence Seminar (YES)! This event is scheduled for June 29-July 1 in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Registration is open! The priority registration deadline is June 1. YES offers a wide variety of activities for both youth and adult leaders. Be sure you check out the tentative schedule to see what is in store for this three-day, action-packed event.

If you plan to attend YES, please let Youth Adviser, Cara Harmon, know as soon as possible so she can include you in our team travel plans! Here is who she has on her list as attending so far:

Youth: Cami Choate, Abby Eddy, Addison Hinton, CJ Kirkland, Jordan Macan, Ansley Mings, Hazel Myles, Hunter & Cooper Skouby, Jocelyn Timmermeyer

Parent Chaperones: Kelly Eddy, Candace Fitzgerald, Kara Hinton, Angela Mings, Leslie Skouby

Cara will send an email soon to those attending YES so we can finalize travel plans.

If you plan to compete at the Youth World Show (YWS), July 28 - August 6 in Oklahoma City, and have not submitted your Letter of Intent, you need to contact Cara immediately. If you are planning on joining Team Missouri from another state, you must submit a Change of Affiliation form. These forms are due to AQHA by June 1 and require several signatures.

Here is the tentative schedule for the show. The schedule includes Level 3, Adequan Level 2, 13 & Under, Level 1 Champion of Champions, and Level 3 and Level 2 core classes. As before, exhibitors will have the opportunity to enter NSBA and/or jackpot classes.

Following the rule change passed during the 2020 AQHA Convention, the number of affiliate entries allowed per state is six entries multiplied by the total number of classes offered with no limit on individual class entries. In 2023, a total of 88 Level 3 and Level 2 classes will be offered, allowing each affiliate a total of 528 entries. There are no restrictions to these entries by Level, class, or division as there has been in the past.

Cara is keeping track of our total entries via Letter of Intent, so please be sure you are in touch with her if you plan to show at the Youth World this summer. She will also send all entry links and information as it becomes available.

Don’t forget about the other opportunities to get involved at the Youth World. AQHYA hosts horse judging, speech competitions, art contests, and more! Read more about these contests here. Entries are due to AQHA by July 15. Contact Cara if you are interested, as she will send all Team Missouri entries in together. MQHYA sponsors the cost of all contest entries from members. These contests are so much fun and a great way to make the most of your Youth World experience!

Lastly, it is important that we are looking for team sponsors all year. Money that we raise helps pay for team expenses for YES, the Youth World and Congress NYATT teams, and more!

You can download our sponsorship form from our Youth page on the MQHA website and it is also attached.

See you soon!
