Missouri Quarter Horse Youth Association - March 2021 News

Hello everyone! The weather is getting warmer, so lucky for us that means the MQHA Maple Leaf Show is approaching! I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our next show. Also, An Equine Production just released an improved schedule for Maple Leaf. Any information regarding the Maple Leaf can be found, here.

MQHYA has a lot coming ahead, so please be sure to read through all this newsletter! Our MQHA and MQHYA apparel is still available for sale. We have MQHA and MQHYA t-shirts, long sleeve t’s and quarter-zip sweatshirts in multiple color options. If you are looking for some MQH(Y)A apparel, contact the MQHYA Facebook page and we will be able to ship that right to your front door! We will have the items available for purchase at the upcoming MQHA Maple Leaf, Winter Blast, and Gateway Classic horse shows. This is a great fundraiser for MQHYA and an awesome way to show your MQHA spirit!

Long-time MQHA member, Sandy Huebner contacted Cara about a month ago wanting to make masks for our youth association to sell as a fundraiser. She mailed us nearly 80 (very nice) handmade masks last week. They were all individually packaged, sized, etc. We sold them for $5/each at our apparel table at the tack swap in Columbia last weekend and made $155 from them. This was very kind of her to do for our association.

This along with amazing members, made it possible for us to sell over $700 worth of merchandise at the Central MO Tack Swap event that Jim and Susan Dudley hosted.

We will continue to sell these at our apparel, so make sure to come help if you get a chance at Maple Leaf!

MQHA Maple Leaf

March 25-28 | National Equestrian Center, Lake St. Louis

We will have a table in the Arena A area selling MQHA and MQHYA apparel. We need youth members to help work the table so if you are interested in helping, contact Cara or myself!

In addition to the apparel, MQHYA will be hosting the Blind Horsemanship Challenge on Friday before horsemanship!

Blind Horsemanship Challenge Details:

★        Friday just before the horsemanship classes. (After the Western Pleasure classes.)

★        Open to all age non-pro riders.

★        The entry fee is $40 per horse/rider. No limit to the number of entries.

★        All exhibitors will face the wall. Exhibitors are not allowed to watch anyone else ride the pattern before they do so or look at the pattern before the class begins. One exhibitor at a time will be allowed a maximum of 60 seconds to look at the pattern. Once time is up, the exhibitor will turn around and execute the pattern. Once everyone has completed the pattern, all will work the rail (one way) and then line up for placings.

★        The winnings will go as follows: 1st place: $250, 2nd place: $150, 5th place: $100 (The prize money will come from the generous donation from Mr. Jim Bivens last fall. He intended this to go towards a youth fundraiser or activity. I think having the higher winning monies will help generate excitement and increase entries.)

We will need youth (who are not competing in it) to help during this fundraiser Friday night. Also, directors at large and anyone else who would like to help, please think about making 1-2 flyers or posters each to hang around the NEC to promote this event. If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to contact Cara or I and we would love to help you help us!

MQHA Gateway Classic

May 27-30| National Equestrian Center, Lake St. Louis

It’s never too early to start planning! Our officer and director team finalized some plans for a stall raffle for the Gateway show a few weeks ago!

The MQHA board donated one stall for Gateway to the youth. We will sell raffle tickets for this stall. Tickets are $5/each, 5 for $20 & 15 for $50. We will start selling tickets at Maple Leaf. We will have the tickets and raffle jar at the MQHA apparel sales table. We need youth to help with this! Also, just a reminder that youth who plan to compete at the Youth World Show need to participate in at least TWO fundraisers.
