MQHYA February 2024 News

Hello, everyone!

I would like to introduce myself before diving into these exciting updates! My name is Hazel Myles, and I am honored to be serving as President of MQHYA for 2024! My involvement in this association has been such a blessing, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to give back to MQHYA. I also have the privilege of serving as an Executive Committee Member on the AQHYA Leadership Team! I am a senior in high school, and I complete my schoolwork online so that I have time to ride, show, and participate in leadership/community service activities. Alright… Now, that is enough about me. We have some important news to discuss!

2024 is off to an amazing start! A record 40 youth attended the MQHA Convention! At the youth meeting, we discussed fundraising and activity plans for the upcoming year and elected the newest group of MQHYA leaders:

It is my pleasure to announce your new 2024 MQHYA Officer and Director Team:

President: Hazel Myles

Vice-President: Avery Bergan

Reporter: Addison Hinton

Executive Director - Social Chair: Kyleigh Heikes

Executive Director - Membership Chair: Hunter Skouby

Directors at Large: Josie Jarsulic, CJ Kirkland, Xanthe Lewis, Jordan Macan, Anisa Pathak, Cooper Skouby, and Bayleigh Wood.

Congratulations to all officers and directors on being elected to represent MQHYA! I am thrilled to work with each of you!

MQHYA Zoom

Join us February 25th at 4:00pm!

We will be finalizing our 2024 plans over a Zoom meeting. We will discuss fundraising, team activities, and much more! Current officers and directors, please join if you are available. The Zoom link will be sent out soon. We look forward to seeing everyone!

MQHYA Committees

With the new year, comes new committee assignments! 2024 officers and directors, I encourage you to complete the Committee Form to submit your preferences. Serving on a committee is the best way to maximize your involvement! Before submitting your response, please read through the descriptions below.

Fundraising Committee: Responsible for putting fundraising plans into action (creating flyers, securing sponsorships, setting up and promoting fundraisers, etc.) The Fundraising Committee makes the Youth World Show and the Youth Excellence Seminar possible for MQHYA members!

Correspondence Committee: Responsible for facilitating communication with sponsors, donors, reporters, and others when necessary. This may include writing thank-you notes, contacting newspapers/radio stations, asking for pictures for the MQHYA scrapbook, etc.

Social Committee: Responsible for implementing plans for any parties or social activities as well as assisting with social media content. Specifically, the Social Committee is responsible for organizing the hospitality stall and distributing team apparel at the Youth World Show.

Outreach Committee: Responsible for working to gain membership for MQHYA. This often involves connecting with 4-H clubs, FFA chapters, and other youth organizations to promote MQHYA.

Winter Blast Silent Auction

To kick off the 2024 show season, MQHYA will be holding a silent auction at the Winter Blast to begin raising funds for our YWS and NYATT teams and other activities. The silent auction will be set up near the show office, and bidding will be open throughout the show. Please consider supporting MQHYA members by donating an item to the auction. We greatly appreciate your continued support! Once you have your item or basket made, please text a picture to Cara so she can begin promoting this fundraiser!

Letter of Intent

Each year, MQHYA sends a team to compete at the AQHYA World Championship Show and the National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) at The Congress. If you are interested in participating in either of these events, you must file a Letter of Intent with MQHYA so that your MQHA points can count toward your qualification. The 2024 Letter of Intent form is attached. Please contact Youth Advisor, Cara Harmon if you have questions or need assistance.

2024 AQHYA Theme Release

The American Quarter Horse Youth Association has officially released the national theme for 2024, which will be highlighted throughout the year at the Youth World Show and the Youth Excellence Seminar. I am delighted to announce the 2024 AQHYA theme: “We’re All In.”

Finally, make sure to renew your MQHYA membership for 2024! You can access the link by clicking here: membership link.

I am so excited for what is in store! It is bound to be a phenomenal show season!

Sincerely,

Hazel Myles
