MQHYA Member Spotlight: Ellistin Morey

Ellistin Morey is one of our newly elected officers for 2022-2023. She is serving as Executive Director - Membership Chair, where she assists new members and works to increase participation in MQHYA activities.

Aside from her contribution to our leadership team, Ellistin is an outstanding equestrian who specializes in the western all-around events (trail, horsemanship, western riding, equitation, and showmanship) on her gelding, ShowOffYourAssets. However, Ellistin’s favorite class is the trail, because “at a high level it takes a horse with great rhythm, percussion, and ’try’. I also love the challenge it gives you. Both you and your horse have to be thinking the entire time”. Ellistin mentions that she has “been very fortunate to show and ride some very nice trail horses,” and “will forever be grateful for all of the opportunities [she] has been given inside, and outside of the show ring”.

The Missouri Quarter Horse Youth Association is special to Ellistin for a multitude of reasons; however most specifically, she appreciates that “we have an opportunity for everyone”. She elaborates on this by stating that “if you just want to show, we have our Youth Word Show and NYATT  teams. If you enjoy the leadership side of things, we also offer that”. Additionally, Ellistin notes that she has met some amazing people through our organization.

When Ellistin was asked what advice she would provide to youth who are just beginning their career within the equine industry, she responded that the “best piece of advice would definitely be to find a trainer who supports you, and to trust the process” because “they truly want to see you succeed”. Furthermore, Ellistin loves the Young Horse Development Program and promotes it as a great opportunity for any youth who has interest in owning an American Quarter Horse, as it fosters a lifelong friendship with an AQHA breeder.

Congratulations on being elected to an officer position for MQHYA, Ellistin. We are thrilled to see what you accomplish this year and are extraordinarily grateful to have you on Team Missouri!
