MQHYA June/July 2024 News

The weather isn’t the only thing that is heating up; the show season is too! With the biggest events of the year right around the corner, be sure to read through this newsletter to stay in the know!

Fundraising Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in our youth-benefit smoker/grill raffle that wrapped up at the Gateway Classic last month! Congratulations to Wayne Frey on your brand-new smoker! This fundraiser was a massive success, and it will play a large part in making sure that we have everything we need to make YES, the Youth World Show, and NYATT special for our youth. A BIG thank you to Anne Shafer and Stephanie McAlexander - and the entire McAlexander Performance Horses for donating the smoker.

Youth Excellence Seminar

The highly anticipated Youth Excellence Seminar will begin in just a couple of weeks! I am so excited that Missouri will be bringing such a bright, passionate, and involved group of YES attendees this year.

MQHYA members attending YES: Glenna Barnett, Gracelynn Barnett, Gabrielle Barnett, Cami Choate, Abby Eddy, Kyleigh Heikes, Addison Hinton, CJ Kirkland, Hazel Myles, Cooper Skouby, Hunter Skouby & Kinslea Sterner

Our four voting delegates are: Abby Eddy, Hazel Myles, Addison Hinton & Hunter Skouby

Missouri is one of the most active affiliates at the Youth Excellence Seminar. If you are a first-time or prospective attendee, you will be in great company with youth who will help you navigate the event. If you have any questions about YES, there are several of us who would be thrilled to answer any questions you may have. WE ARE ALL IN (this together). Please do not hesitate to reach out. We love having the opportunity to share the YES experience!

AQHYA Youth World Show (YWS)

Before you know it, Team Missouri will be competing at the 2024 AQHYA Youth World Show in Oklahoma City (August 2-11). Although we are slightly more than a month away, it is not too late to compete. The YWS entry deadline is July 1. Please remember that, to compete at the YWS, you must file a letter of intent with Cara Harmon (also by July 1). The 2024 Letter of Intent form is attached. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.

There are also a variety of contests members have the opportunity to compete in outside of the arena. Contest opportunities: art/photo, prepared speech, impromptu speech, 13&under public speaking, and Justin Boots & Wrangler Jeans decorating. If you are interested in participating in any of these contests, please contact Cara asap. MQHYA sponsors the entry fee for these contests and entries are due to AQHA by July 15!

MQHYA Sponsorships

Please be on the lookout for potential MQHYA sponsors. It is our goal for every MQHYA youth attending YES, the YWS, or participating in NYATT to secure at least two sponsors for 2024. The sponsorship form is attached. Please reach out to Cara Harmon or myself with any questions.

It is shaping up to be a fantastic year for MQHYA! Remember that it is never too late to get involved. Always feel free to contact Cara or myself with inquiries or ideas. We sincerely value your input and believe it is essential for the growth and well-being of MQHYA.

Sincerely,

Hazel Myles
