MQHA Member Spotlight: Angie Dale
Name: Angie Dale
Where are you from? I grew up in Richmond, a small town outside of Kansas City. I now live in a suburb of Kansas City.
How long have you been showing horses? I showed on a very small scale as a child and after more decades than I can believe, started showing again in 2015.
How long have you been in Missouri? I have been here my entire life.
What is your favorite horse show? The AQHA Level 1 Championships, though if the stars would ever align it would be Buckskin World.
What is your favorite event to show in? It is a tossup between HUS and Trail
What is your favorite class to watch? Disciplined Rail
Who is your all-time favorite horse? And why? My all-time favorite horse is a combination of horses. I will always love and care for my boy, MWS Cashn His Bucks. He has taught me so much and given me a room full of awards. I do wish he was more of a lover like Kermit, the horse I leased this year, and calmer like Bentley, the horse I am leasing for the 2020 show season.
If you are not at a horse show, what would we find you doing? Sitting at an airport or on an airplane. My job requires a lot of travel. I'm a "lifer" with Marriott/Starwood and American Airlines.
Do you have another job…besides taking care of your horses? Yes, I work in Medical Affairs at a Biotech company. I am blessed to have all "my" boys boarded at Osage Oaks with Amy Kirkland so she and her team care for them on a daily basis.
Favorite food? Indian, when ordered by one of my Indian colleagues who orders flavorful but not spicy.
Favorite restaurant? The Lucky J at the show site in Carthage. Their apples are great and I enjoy dining with our show team and watching others show.
Favorite fun class at a horse show? I like to watch the costume class but not when Cash is anywhere near. He would not be a fan.
Favorite movie? Dead Poet's Society
Favorite quote? Never be the smartest person in the room. If you are, find a different room.
What is your dream vacation? Staying at a luxury camp (sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it??) in Kruger National Park, South Africa
Tell us something most people don’t know about you. Horse show life and personal life tend to stay separated so most MQHA people don't know I play the trumpet.
One piece of advice you would like to share with exhibitors who are just getting started? Go to shows even if you are not showing. Watch others prepare and watch classes with your trainer or other knowledgeable exhibitors. Never be too proud or scared to ask questions.
If there is anything else you would like to share, please tell us! Adding a horseback ride improves any vacation. I will be forever grateful to my trainer, Amy Kirkland, for giving me the skills to enjoy these rides around the world. I also attribute all my show success to her!
