Name:  Joelle Karl

Where are you from originally: Park Rapids, Minnesota.

How long have you been showing horses? My first horse show was with 4H when I was 8 yrs. old. I took a break when i got married and moved to MO.  I started back 20 years ago with local open shows and now train with Chris Russell and Brendon Mehochko Performance Horses

How long have you been in Missouri? 33 years with nearly 30 of them in Robertsville

What is your favorite horse show? The atmosphere of the Congress is so much fun. I love showing at Gateway when the weather cooperates and we can ride and show outside.

What is your favorite event to show in? That's a toss-up since I just started showing in the all-around events. Right now it could be showmanship since my horse is so easy.  I do love horsemanship and my trail practices are really fun!

What is your favorite class to watch? I love watching a good class of pleasure horses! Then again this all-around thing is growing on me and watching my Team show trail is a blast!

Who is your all-time favorite horse? And why?  Hot N Krymsun. He's a big hearted gelding that has helped me with confidence and has taught me a ton.  In one year, I've added 2 events and am working on trail at home!

If you are not at a horse show, what would we find you doing? My family is my first priority but then I love to run with my dogs, go to the gym, and hang out in the barn with my horses at home. In the summer, I love to garden!

Do you have another job…My home away from home has been Robertsville Elementary for the past 26 years.

Favorite food? Chinese food or french fries!

Favorite restaurant? I like quaint quiet places so Hawthorne Inn in Labadie fits the bill!

Favorite fun class at a horse show?  I love to ride bareback, Ride a Buck or Bareback pleasure

Favorite movie?  Christmas movies! I couldn't pick just one; Elf, The Holiday or just the Hallmark Channel.

Favorite quote?  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

What is your dream vacation? Alaskan cruise followed by Hawaii

Tell us something most people don’t know about you? I married my high school sweetheart and we had twins when we were only 22.

One piece of advice you would like to share with exhibitors who are just getting started? Don't get intimidated by other people. Find a horse and trainer that are a good fit for you!
