Missouri Quarter Horse Youth Association - May 2019 News

Hello! There is A LOT of important information included in this newsletter, so please read closely.

The Gateway Classic is coming up this month! It will be in Lake Saint Louis, May 23-26. We plan on having a silent auction again this year. We ask that each youth member bring something to contribute. This can be a horse item, home décor, jar of homemade cookies, dog treats/toys – be creative! This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. We need YOUR help to make this a great fundraiser! When you get your item or basket ready, be sure to send Cara or Reporter, Hannah Inchiostro a picture, so we can feature it on our Facebook page. We will also have our MQHA and MQHYA apparel available for sale at this show. We have a variety, especially in Large, XL & XXL. You may have noticed on the show bill, we will be sponsoring the pizza exhibitor party on Saturday evening. We will need youth members to help serve the salad and pizza. This always earns us some nice tips to go towards fundraising, so make plans to attend. This is also a fun activity to participate in together!

We ask that our members (especially officers and directors at large) please make a poster for the silent auction & exhibitor pizza party.

Following the pizza party on Saturday, we will have a general membership and YES/Youth World Team planning meeting. If you are planning to attend YES or are a member of the Youth World team, please be sure to attend.

We are super excited to be able to Rise to the Challenge with AQHYA members from around the world at the 2019 Bank of America Youth Excellence Seminar, July 9-11, in Amarillo, Texas. The priority registration deadline is June 1, 2019.

Take a peek at the tentative schedule to see some of the special events that are planned. From an incredible keynote speaker, Jess Ekstrom, CEO of Headbands of Hope, to interactive workshops designed for both youth and adult leaders, YES will be an unforgettable opportunity for you.

Here are some other reasons youth should get excited for YES 2019:

- Meet new friends and see old ones

- Participate in interactive leadership and team building activities

- Make an impact through community service

- Interact with your youth leadership team and elect new AQHYA officers and directors

- Show off your dancing skills!

Below is a list of those who have let Cara know they are interested in attending YES, this year. If you are planning to go and your name is not listed below, please contact Cara asap!

If you are planning to show at the youth world this summer and have not submitted your Letter of Intent, you need to contact Cara asap. Please let Cara know if you have nationally qualified or need to make any changes! We need to know as it may open up a spot for someone else. I have attached a current list of LOI’s. The Gateway Classic is also a 2020 qualifying show! Make sure that you turn in your 2020 Letter of Intent, so that your points begin counting. The form is attached and can be found on the MQHA website.

Don’t forget about the other opportunities to get involved at Youth World. AQHYA hosts horse judging, speech competitions, art contests, and even more! Entries are due by June 15. Contact Cara if you are interested, as she will send all Team Missouri entries in together. MQHYA sponsors the cost of all contest entries from members. See all contest opportunities and information here.

*We have a couple of members interested in putting together a team for the horse judging contest. Please contact Cara or Kelly Eddy if you are interested!

New this year, we are looking for sponsors for Team Missouri! If you know of a business or people that would like to help MQHYA members better serve our members, let us know! I have attached a sponsorship letter template and form for you to use. The form is also on the youth page of the MQHA website. I would love to increase participation and improve the experience of our team! I’d really like to improve our hospitality stall, stall decorations, and other parts of the team experience. We need you to help find sponsors. Remember, if you are on our Youth World team, this is very important!

Our Reporter, Hannah Inchiostro is working on monthly member spotlights. If you have not done so, we ask that you fill out the short questionnaire here. Also, please send any pictures/videos of you and your horse to Hannah at hinchiostro@gmail.com. She works very hard on out MQHYA scrapbook!

Sincerely,
