Happy Fall!

MQHYA is having a great year so far! We had 13 youth members attend the AQHYA Youth Excellence Seminar (YES) in July, and our very own, Justin Eddy was elected AQHYA First-Vice President! MQHYA also had 24 youth and 37 horses represent Team Missouri at the AQHYA World Show. We had a very successful show, so be sure to check out our Facebook if you missed the results!

The All- American Quarter Horse Congress is already in full swing. Many of our members will be traveling to Ohio this month, and we wish you the best of luck. It is an amazing experience and a show you don’t want to miss. One unique event at the Congress is the National Youth Activities Team Tournament (NYATT). Each Affiliate can send a team to compete. The classes offered are showmanship, horsemanship, western pleasure, hunt seat equitation, hunter under saddle, reining, and barrel racing. The winning team and individuals win great prizes and bragging rights of being a "Congress Champion"! This year’s Missouri Team includes:

·         Jordan Czerwinski – western pleasure & horsemanship

·         Evie Doles - horsemanship & hunt seat equitation

·         Chloe Engelbrecht - showmanship & hunt seat equitation

·         Brooke Inchiostro – western pleasure

While our MQHA shows are wrapping up for the year, we still have the Fall Festival All Breed Youth Horse Show! It is presented by MQHA Charities at the National Equestrian Center on November 16 & 17. Make sure you make plans to attend! MQHYA will host a 'Build Your Own Cupcake' Exhibitor Party on Saturday evening. It should be a fun event, so be sure to come out and socialize with the other youth!  If you don’t plan on showing, it is a great opportunity to volunteer. Don’t forget helping out at the consignment clothing booth helps toward scholarship hours. If you are interested, please contact Youth Advisor, Cara Harmon for more information!

If you are an FFA member in Missouri, then you may be hearing about the Missouri Quarter Horse Association Fall Speech Contest. Each Chapter can send two students to area and from there, two will go to districts. The district winners will go to the MQHA Convention in January to speak for the state title. If you are an FFA member and are interested, please reach out to me and I would be happy to answer your questions!

We are only a few months away from the Annual MQHA Convention. This year it will be held January 17-19 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. The theme is going to be the Roaring 20s! New this year, MQHYA will host a gourmet dessert auction during the banquet. Start thinking about what you are going to bring! It should be a lot of fun. After our Annual Meeting on Saturday, we will have our fun team-building outing. There will be more details to come soon!

Enjoy the nice fall weather and I look forward to seeing you soon at the Fall Festival All Breed Youth Horse Show!
